Having a short and clever caption used to be enough. However, with my social media case studies, I needed to do more. Countless articles and videos state that putting more into your caption increases engagement and the likelihood a user will stay on your post/page longer. Through my own experimentation and research, I've come to find that to be true.

Recently, I've started putting more words into my captions. I originally only put short, clever captions because they felt cool and left more for the audience to think for themselves. It's still cool IMO, but not gonna help my research. For example, my posts this past month have been receiving more than just emoji comments. I think the thoughts put into my captions are helping with that.

Some factors that might dispute that claim:

  • I'm posting a lot more frequently and generating content to create conversation where as in the past I would just post once a month and go.
  • I'm just paying more attention to comments now and am realizing it

Even though I like to write, having these mini-blog posts on my IG would require me to be more open to the world. More transparency into how I think.

I'm actually afraid to be vulnerable, but I guess that's what creates more engagement.
