This is an old post from my Tumblr that reflects on sports photography. My equipment is still the same, but when I upgrade I still don't think I'll have enough to get into pro levels of sports photography. It's too expensive.

There’s been some recent changes in my life that are allowing me to be more involved with basketball. No I’m not taking photos for the NBA… yet. Lol jk. If you wanted to know, there’s a basketball court being built in my neighborhood, and I’m going to sign up for a gym membership within the next year. So I’ll be able to play indoor and outdoor more frequently.

Anyway, I thought it’d be a good topic for this post. Back in February, I was blessed with the chance to watch my favorite current player: Giannis Antetokounmpo. To tie this even closer to current events, his first signature shoe(Nike) was released and he was crowned MVP.

For sports, I shoot with a Canon EOS M x Canon EF-S 55-250mm F4-5.6 is STM. t’s not the best, but I do what I can with it. Being indoors, the lighting is terrible for my set up. I’ll almost always have settings that’ll bring noise/grain to the image. I’ve learned to live with it. Although recently I started editing noise in Lightroom! So I may be able to get better with what I have.

Most of my shots were during warm ups because it’s easier to capture with the speed I’m set at, but also because I was just enjoying the game. It’s not often that I’m that close, and it was my first time watching him play. With those circumstances, I was aiming for more intimate moments that you wouldn’t normally see on camera. I wanted to capture the emotions in each shot. Maybe next time I’ll be able to do more in game shots, but we’ll see…
