This is an old post from my Tumblr. I still mostly do this for fun, but I'm starting to take it more seriously now. Crazy how things change over time.

I met another photographer at work today. We got to talking about what type of photography we do. It’s an age old question and probably one of the first questions you get as a photographer (the other being what do you shoot with). He does street photography and is a hobbyist. I told him it was my hobby as well, but when I’m asked for a photo shoot then I’m down. Then I said I could never do it full time because I like it as my hobby, and if I make a little bread from it why not?

We agreed that keeping it on that level is what makes it fun. I can’t bring myself to market, look for shoots, and then set up multiple appointments. I’d eventually end up dragging myself out there. It wouldn’t be fun anymore. Photoshoots are cool and all, but it’s different feel to do it organically. It’s more fun to capture the moment rather than making someone pose. To be honest, even in my photo shoots I don’t really direct. I just talk and let it come naturally. It feels better and feels like I’m just hanging out.

I’m content with how I go about my photography life. Now if my photos were worth more, then this would be a different story. My actual photography dream would be to travel the world and take photos for IG and live off of sponsorships. Pipe dreams in an over saturated market. Even then, I’d find that would become a chore eventually because my heart would always lead me back home to capture the moments with the people I love.
